Episode Highlights

Joe’s Background

  • Joe was a public speaker, and he used to run workshops throughout Mexico. The pandemic impacted his business severely because the country was not ready to shift to doing things virtually.
  • During the pandemic, Get Staffed Up opened the opportunity for Joe to not only work remotely but also work with lawyers, a profession he admires.

Joe: “I had no idea I could be this comfortable working fully productive while being at my own home, which is something that I never used to do [since] I used to travel a lot. Now I’m able to live my life the way that I want to do it while remaining productive with people that I admire.”

  • Joe is now a senior brand ambassador of Get Staffed Up. He is excited to help virtual assistants get good opportunities and profitable jobs.
  • Lawyers with virtual assistants can balance their lives.

How to Prioritize Yourself and Your Health

  • Health often takes a back seat when we’re busy with work and our personal lives.
  • When you want to exercise, Joe recommends picking something that fits your situation and is enjoyable. For Joe, these are marathons and triathlons.

Joe: “It is prioritizing a few things. First, I needed to figure out what was something I wanted to do in order to feel better. And eventually, I found out that going to the gym wasn’t it… So my biggest advice would be to find something that you really like.”

  • Ultimately, healthy habits can help you run a successful law firm.

Joe: “Find something that you want for yourself that will complement your life and everything else will just fall into place.”

  • Moshe shares how having a training program with goals helps him prioritize and focus.

Practical Tools for Time Management

  • There are many stresses that happen in life. Joe recommends choosing your battles and adjusting your time for prioritization.

Joe: “Sometimes, there are different stresses in life. When life throws a curveball at you, how can you handle all that? … I would say choose your battles.”

  • Keep your tasks simple. Even if Joe is training for triathlons, he never trains for over 3 hours daily.

Joe: “Keep it simple, have everything you need at hand, and then just prioritize and execute. I prioritize my work. I prioritize my deliveries, my relationship, my family, and my health. So I’m able to do all of this, but not for three or four hours a day.”

  • Life has different aspects, and some outweigh others. Prioritization is key.
  • While you may have several goals, you should not forget to spend time with family, work, and others.
  • Joe reminds people who want to train to be careful and not get hurt.

Start Simple

  • You don’t need to go all out immediately. Start with something simple and easy to do consistently.
  • Build on it over time.
  • Moshe recommends involving yourself in an activity that gives you motivation to help you stay committed.

Moshe: “Less is more, and even a little bit is worth something. I struggle with this personally, like if I’m not going to have an hour to ride a bike, I’m not getting on the bike. But the reality is, 20 minutes is better than nothing.”

How Leaders Can Foster Intrapreneurs

  • Intrapreneurs are employees of a company who feel empowered to make decisions and take ownership.
  • Joe started as a virtual assistant at Get Staffed Up and eventually moved to different positions.
  • The company did not hire virtual assistants just to get the job done. Upper management is always there for them and encourages them to do something good for themselves.
  • Empower your employees and you’ll see amazing results.
  • Leaders should elevate and empower their employees. In addition, they should be extremely responsive and actively involved with staff.

Joe: “Empower your people to do it and have an amazing company, and they’ll want to do it as well.”

Delegate Your Way to Freedom

  • Learn to delegate so you can scale up your business and free up your time.

Joe: “Delegate your way to freedom. What that means is to always continue to scale your operation up. All of those things that you no longer need to do yourself, then have capable hands where you can delegate that to. If not, then you’re going to be doing everything by yourself. You’re gonna stay [in] the same place for a very long time.”

  • Hiring a virtual assistant can help you develop your delegation skills.
  • If you have several attorneys in your law firm, consider hiring them virtual assistants, too. This can help them become more effective at their work.
